What I think of Brink so far

Played it for about an hour today and didn't enjoy even a minute of it.

Did the 1st level of each of the 4 challenges and then hopped into an online match.
At least I think it was on online match, the menu was pretty effin' vague and it seemed like I was
just shooting bots.

Halfway through the online match I dashboarded, removed the disc and packed it up to go trade in.

It would already be gone and forgotten except that I didn't have time to stop at Gamestop. I'll
probably give it another play tonight/today, but my guess is it will still be getting traded ASAP.

I'll admit. It's not a game for everyone. I am loving it so far, even with it's flaws (AI and lag), at core, it's a great game and should be given a chance to grow a little bit. But if you don't like it, like I said, it may not be a game for you.

I'll give it another chance since I can't get rid of it today.
I'll at least try a weapon attachment (the attachment options seem cool) and a couple more online matches.

Maybe I'll click with it, but I don't have high hopes for that happening.

Sucks too because I've been looking forward to this game for at least 2 years now..

Thank you Terry. I agree. THe coolness that was Metal has now been slightly tarnished in my book. You lost some cool points man. Now go trade brink back in and get Homefront back. And BC2! Man I'll fram that bitch when I am done playing it!

I don't even know what I'm going to do with my BC2 when BF3 comes out. I know I'm not going to play it anymore, but it was such a great game that I don't think it deserves to be in the bargain bin at GS.

I've never played Homefront with you guys because it won't let me join your games.
I've tried joining in every single time I see someone playing and it's only worked once and even then I got dashboarded out of the lobby before the next match started.

If I start in a lobby and the party joins the game it seems to always work now. If you ever see me on I have no problem backing out of a game man.

I just never seem to be online when you are online anymore Metal. Used to be able to catch you when I got home from work but never see you on anymore.

Yeah I've only seen Metal on at weird times if at all. Its too bad.

I'm typically on 8am-10am or so or else after 9pm...

That sucks. I be at work in the morning when your on and 9 pm your time is like midnight mine when I be sleepin......... =o(

Yeah. That does suck.

I just got my 360 back and i've played it for a little, still playing it though. It feels nice but i can tell it's not for everyone. That seems really harsh metal O.o

Chunk to be fair though a lot of what he said is what thers are saying and what I have seen from vids. Metal is pretty straight up and isn;t going to bash the game just to bash it.

Remember to that that's my impression from only an hour of play.

I'll give it another try before I ditch it though.

I'll also post my impressions aswel i just finished the star 2 challenge of the be more objective.

I can see this being a lot of fun with a full team of humans.

I don't think one hour is enough time to judge a game.

Really. I could tell in the first 20 minutes of playing BC2 I would love it and I did. After the first hour of Halo Reach I was like FUCK ME and I was right I do not like it. First few rounds of Homefront Love it and still do. It's pretty easy to get a feel for a how a game is going to play out in the first hour or so I think.

The first 15min of a game is like the first song on a album. That opening can tell you alot about the game.

It would help if Metal would explain why he doesn't like it.

it's not always enough time, but a lot of the time I can tell right away.

If I went off of the first couple hours of Homefront I would have ditched it a long time ago.

True for me as well.

Yes, an hour isn't a lot of time but it's subjective. I was in the PS3 BC2 beta and after just a couple matches I could tell it had it's share of problems, but I could also tell that the massive amount of super awesome fun I was having would outweigh those problems.
With Demons Souls I knew within 20 minutes that I was playing a game that would go on my all-time-favorites list.

With Brink I didn't get that feeling at all. The feeling I got was that I really just wasn't enjoying playing it at all.

You're right though, it could just be that it needs more time to grow on me. I'll try it again tomorrow morning and see what I think, but the fact that I'm home and have absolutely zero urge to play a brand new game doesn't bode well...

Gave it another try and played a few more online matches last night. I'll be trading it in today.

I don't hate it. I don't even really dislike it. It just isn't very fun to me so I'll get rid of it while it's worth something. I'll see if they have Shadowrun while I'm there.

$10?! I pretty much got it for free. I am enjoying it a lot really it's what i expected it to be. I haven't tried online yet though just finished a bunch of challenges.

Me and Bolt tried online. It's pretty fun.

Yep. $55-$35 for selling pre-order bonus - $10 giftcard that I spent on something I was going to buy anyways.


I didn't really enjoy the challenges too much. At least not the first one, that almost made me hate the game. Online is fun though, I recommend competetive freeplay. Haven't been able to get in a playable 8v8 match, but 5v5 seems like a more fitting amount of people.

Well I just got a report from someone on my FL that I just can convince to hang out on the SeC and this is what she has to say on Brink after two days of playing.

"The more I play brink the more I think it sucks. The customization is limited. The parkour is a lie. Ugly graphics. LAGGY multiplayer. I mean unplayable lag. Firing from the hip is more effective than using iron sights. imo this is a $15 Aracade game"

The only thing I agree on is the Lag... *mumbles* And the parkour.

See this is the problem, people see parkour and think you should be able to fly across the level. There does seem to be a graphics loadout problem (not sure what you call it exactly)but i like the graphics. Hipfire is not accurate unless you're useing like a light weapon maybe a pistol?

I ignore the lag because almost every game has lag when it starts out.

The parkour is just an easier way to navigate through the level. People set their expectations WAY too high for it.

That hipfire statement is a blatant lie, hipfire can't hit shit in comparison to ADS.

And yeah the lag sucks but 5v5 doesn't really have any.

I don;t give a shit about the lag myself. I was going to make a comment on how this game was going to be full of lag for the first few days but figured I had trolled yall enough at the time. It's a new game the lag is going to happen I don;t care how much testing they do. TYou buy a game day one you just have to put up with it for a few days.

What I think has killed this game is the overhype about how revolutionary it was going to be. I think it's done some new stuff but from what it sounds like everyone is stuck in a choke point blasting everybody.

They did overhype the movment in early previews I think they screwed themselves there. I knew people where not going to be doinf spiderman flips but that expectation was out there and some of the vids made it "seem" possible.

Graphics, well the fanboys sure got that one wrong didn;t they! HAHA Its cool Its about gameplay for me. I love Homefront and the graphics could have been have been better but it has good gameplay.

Can;t coment of the hip fire and all that since I don;t have the game and I am just pulling feeback from friends, and what I have seen from gameplay vids.

First thing that needs to happen is to clean up the lag. If they don;t do it fast than like Homefront a ton of folks are going to jump ship.

To be honest I was hoping this would be a good game. Game of the year..... well come on thats not going to happen with the FPS market so flooded. But I was hoping for something to come on the market for some fresh change and to offer some competition to COD and BF so they stay fresh. I don;t think Brink did that. BF3 looks to be more and more like this famed COD killer people crave so bad.

Game of the year...... BF3, or Gears 3 would be my early votes.

From the vids on it i'd think hipfire was ok too maybe it was an earlier build?

i hope i can pick up a cheap copy after exams. it can be my fun muck around game (it used to be reach, but i started to hate it )

Zombies, and wager matches on Black Ops are my fun much arounds games. I was going to get Brink if everyone liked it but I am pretty much swayed away at this point.

Haha I didn't realize I was posting that much. I really don't have much to do in the mornings lol.

But yeah what you said was pretty much right. People expected some crazy shit out if this game. I took what I saw in the gameplay videos and figured that's what I would get, and I got it.

I don;t blame you man you like the game but you have that blue sig and on Gamespot its like a beacon saying Here I am Chewy! Defender of Brink! HAHA So you stand out.

Yep. I like the layout of Gamespot so muc better than GFQ and thats where I lurk the forums and you have a banner there on your sig.

I have to disagree with you there. Splash Damage has been talking up their SMART movement and how revolutionary it is for the past 2 years now.

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect it to work at least as well as a game that came out 4 years ago, but it's sketchy at best.

Anyway I traded it in so I don't have to think about it anymore.
