Saying that, would you buy the most fuel inefficient car in the world and blaze through a highway every day to prove your point

I lean heavily on the word "might". As in "might happen".

I know global warming "might happen". I do not want to contribute if it "does happen".

Firstly, people need to stop calling it global warming because most people will think "today is cold, GLOBAL WARMING IS A HOAX"

I personally think our country, while it has flaws, is fine. Every country out there has it's flaws too; I appreciate the fact that we still have the right to do a lot of things, and that I live in a rather nice area of the United States where I can hunt, fish, and camp to my heart's content. (I said something positive, yes, I know xD)

I'd have to say that I hate the society of the entire world as a whole, human beings themselves, and what this world is becoming more than I dislike any one thing about a specific country.

Regardless of whether or not global warming is a threat, we are reaching a turning point, and we're no longer going to be able to continue with our current standard of living. The earth's population will soon be unsustainable. Human beings will require more resources than the earth can provide. Peak oil. Rising food prices. We're screwed if we think that this paradigm of infinite growth can continue.

I consider myself a conservative and generally lean Republican, but I think global warming is a problem, am fine with gay marriage, and think we should tax the hell out of the rich. I'm with Cram on that one. That's what pisses me off about the Northwest though. Everyone here claims to be the biggest liberals, but when an initiative that would tax anyone who makes more than 250k a year, and only what they make PAST 250k, came up, NOBODY passes it. It was being supported by Bill Gates Sr., but all the other greedy, rich hippies that live here and claim to be so damn liberal and voted for Obama because they wanted to tax the wealthiest in America wouldn't vote for it.

Are you sure you're conservative? Taxing rich people and letting people do whatever they want as long as it doesn't affect others is really the opposite of conservative politics.

I'm not calling you liberal, but with an outlook like that I think you're moderate at most.

Also, what Wacco was saying about people not really getting out of the country is true. If it weren't for the internet, the only avenues for foreign news would be through whatever the US media feels like reporting on and through the BBC radio. We don't get any other foreign radio, and the only foreign channels I get are premium cable packages only. We like to call ourselves multicultural, but we really aren't - especially as we get farther away from the more urban, cosmopolitan areas.

And I do believe global warming is a problem. It's hard to render a verdict on how large of a problem it is, considering how neither side of the argument is completely partisan or reliable, but I find it hard to think that there's zero problem at all.

The temperatures we're looking at now are a result of pollution from the 50's. So basically the future generations are already fucked for when the 70's pollution starts taking affect. I'm just gonna live it up because the world is too much of a shit hole to ever recover.

In my opinion, and only in my opinion, America has gotten lazier. I mean, during the Great Depression and WWII, people were scrambling to help their country. Now we sit on the couch and watch reruns of "Jersey Shore" and we watch Lindsay Lohan throw up again and we watch LeBron mumble on for an hour before finally choosing an NBA team...

It's no wonder the world seems to hate/mock us. We had exchange students last year, and their first classification of America was a country full of fat and lazy people.

The Earth goes through natural heating and cooling cycles. It's been this way since it first formed. There is no such thing as global warming.

Now famine, resource depletion, war, terror, disease, those are real problems.

This whole "going green" thing is just exorbitantly expensive and does little to nothing to help the environment and in some cases causes even more damage.

WHY THE FUCK DID I POST THIS. Is there any way to set a thread to ignore?

Pretty much this. However, I think that the greatest thing that could happen to the Earth, would be a solar flare incinerating everything off of it, once and for all. It would solve every problem that this world has, lol.

Oh, you're not alone in that opinion. I'm pretty hypocritical in this regard, but as a nation, we spend a lot of time complaining, and not a lot doing anything. Someone in my economics class brought up the valid point that one of the reasons unemployment might be so low is that a lot of people would rather live off of unemployment than get a "dirty," blue collar job. We're pretty spoiled as a whole.

Granted, there's not a whole lot I can do where I live, but I'm hoping that'll change when I get to a more urban area.

This is a much more sudden spike than has ever been seen on Earth. Even when we were coming out of the ice age the planet wasnt warming as fast as it is now. dont think of it as heat, think of it as atmospheric entropy, which leads to more humidity in the air in some places and less in others ---> droughts and floods. 4 years ago, there was an international consortium of climate scientists, geologists, meteorologists, chemists, etc. who all met , and 100% agreed that climate change is a result of there being more CO, CO2, Methane, and other greenhouse gasses in the air. The US is pretty much the last place on the planet where there is a sizable amount of people who dont believe in this science. The US is also the only country in the world where oil companies have been running billion dollar stealth campaigns to spread rumors that climate change is a myth...

That would be fantastic, but the odds of one hitting us in the near future probably aren't very high. I'm kinda glad though, I still have some unfinished business, then I could care less, lol.

I'm not trying to be negative btw (nobody said I was, but just to clarify), but I sometimes think that the best thing for the Earth, would be for humanity and everything to be destroyed, then for it to keep existing.

We can always hope that this becomes reality:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technological_singularity

Basically, the rate of the evolution of technology will surpass that of human evolution. The possibilities are stunning. This could fix a lot of our problems, as well as create all kinds of new ones.

However, if that sounds too unrealistic, there's always hope in the future generations. Most of us understand the issues that face us and our progeny. If technology can't save us, then we'll have to accept a new standard of living, and make the best of it with what damage control we can. As for the whole green movement, it's cause is noble, but it's not enough. Nothing will change until the shit hits the fan. Things might not start to get better until they become a whole lot worse.

It doesn't matter if you believe it's global warming or natural cycles. The earth is getting warmer and isn't showing any signs of slowing down. The earth does things over millions of years, it's not likely to reverse its cycle conveniently in the next couple decades. The most we can do to stop is hope global warming is the cause and try to fight it.

Sorry, I'm just the most opinionated jerk on earth:

Another problem with the U.S. is that we let corporations run amok. You see it with the tax-dodging stuff I was talking about earlier. Last year, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Citizens United vs. the FEC, basically that corporations could contribute to political campaigns. Basically, our politicians are being elected by the corporations, and not the people. This isn't new; lobbyists and politicians have had their hands in each others' pockets for years. But this is just further proof that we're no longer in control of our country.

BTW, Frost, I say tax that rich 1% because it's for the good of the many, rather than the few. What do they need seven Italian sports cars for, anyway? They're just going to use their wealth to make more wealth for themselves. That's what corporations do; they're only concerned with profit. The man at the top collects a huge chunk of that, which is an amount completely unnecessary for a person to live on. Meanwhile, we're in debt to China by $X,XXX,XXX,XXX some dollars, which if you just took enough from each of these greedy sons-of-bitches, would be a negligeable amount to them.

...and these corporations, in pursuit of the almighty dollar are allowed to exploit third world countries and fuck up their ecosystems.

I guess I sound like a socialist, but that's what today's world has come to, for me.

I am not sure what to say in this thread but i'll address some of it for those who care.

Ars i agree with you on the America continent citizens thing. I honestly didn't realize that till my friend pointed that out to me a few months ago. I proably only eat fake mexican food but it's the thought that counts?! I love spicy food...

I don't believe that the U.S. makes it's citizens fatter in the end you put the food in yourself so you only have yourself to blame. Now i understand children don't have much of a choice but maybe some kind of law should be enforced for that.. No idea how it would work.

I think people are right about generations getting lazier. In order to not be lazy you have to be inspired. But of course different things inspire different people, but that's just what i think.

As for global warming i believe it's very possible the earth is pretty huge so naturally it would take A LOT to effect it. I remember there was like an email hack of scientists that were trying to explain global warming and apparently they were makeing things look a little more dire than it actually was. Also it mentioned something about passing graphs off from older dates like the 60's-70's as today.

So i am not 100% sure behinde the scientifical reasons of it but i think it can effect us. Of course the earth will be depleted and destroyed in the future it's only natural we will lose too much of what we actually need.

Well that's my thoughts on all of this...

I was watching something of TV about unemployment versus the amoint of jobs available, and there are actually a lot of availabe jobs, but no qualified people to fill them. It was mostly about a need for engineers.

Then again, if people can't make money, they can't pay for school to become those educated qualifying people for those jobs...

And to be fair, we are arrogant. But to be honest, were a country founded on freedom. A country was created via revolution. That attitude will always remain. Plus everyone loves to bash our military, but who does the world come crawling to when they need help? Im far from an ignorant American, as you guys should know by know. And it seems the others on this forum are very educated and smart people. Not everyone in our country is lazy and ignorant. Thats just the south cheers

We are far from perfect, but those bashing us, and living in denial of their own countries issues are the ignorant ones. Fact remains, no other country in the world is as welcoming to foreigners as the US. Half our population come from origins other than the UK. But I should just probably shut up now as I can tell this is going nowhere good.

The highlighted green part was what i was talking about,Personally i dont like alot of American Culture,Plus i dont want to move to your country for a couple of reasons excluded everyone here your country seems to have alot of idiots,And for another if a World War breaks out chances are you guys are getting nuked...Alot.

Also the text in Orange,You do realise you just tried to tell that lie to a Kiwi right?I mean more than half our Population isnt European,Were probally the biggest melting pot in the world

So your calling me a liar? Oh Jesus can a mod just lock this thread? I shouldn't have even posted it. There are stupid people everywhere, not just America. That's a damn ignorant comment. Just because you personally aren't a fan of American culture doesnt mean half the world isnt. I may as well nail my dick to a burning building, as it would get the same results as me typing this.
