Word on SOD

I didnt include Megadeth and Antrax on purpose haha

For shame...

Ok maybe half of the big four are overrated but I don't think they don't deserve to be on the list at all.

Guest

Ok I guess Ill add them.....

Personally I think Metallica sucks

Anthrax is incredibly over rated besides a few classic songs and a few Scott riffs

Megadeth is pretty sweet

Slayer was awesome....now they are a shell without Hanneman or Lombardo.

Slayer is easily the best of the " Big 4 " imo

But Kreator is the best thrash band of em all

BLS? And is SOD referring to System of a Down?

I beg to disagree. I love System.
Though I will admit Serj's solo run is vastly superior to any of his SOAD stuff.

95% of all nu metal can die in a fire

Besides Mudvayne and some Coal Chamber to me

Dropped Da Soap

I hate Nu metal man, but I haven't ever considered SOAD Nu

Guest

Guest

I dunno what else they would classify as

Duck

Duck

regardless of how much you like SOAD they are definitely not thrash metal.

If we're talking about how good thrash metal bands CURRENTLY are, Megadeth and Metallica are both complete shit. I literally deleted Megadeth's Endgame because there were zero songs that didn't make me cringe.

Metallica hasn't put out a good album since And Justice for All. Black Album and Death Magnetic were ok but not great.

I love me some Slayer though

Slayer > Megadeth > Metallica > Anthrax imo

BmmFlash

fucking classifications... what the hell is Nu metal? And If I listen to Bring me the Horizon, Asking Alexandria, Kill Switch Engaged, Of Mice and Men, and bands like that, what is it considered? I like to change it up a lot, and I do listen to some older thrash. Megadeth and BLS really got me into it, so I'm still sort of preferential to Megadeth Laughing

Anthrax are incredible live, great fun, and I honestly think that they have some great material and deserve to be on the list simply because they kind of played their own thrash.

Slayer>Kreator, but different strokes, different folks...

And Megadeth until Risk were fucking awesome.
No way you can love thrash and not want to trash a room to Holy Wars.

I do love me some early Megadeth

I'd agree with most of this. I think Kreator is better than slayer though but just by a little bit.

Early Anthrax is good...they definitely had their own style and flavor going on.

Nu Metal was a movement in the mid to late 90's. After grunge took over and killed off popular (hair) metal from the 80's and diminished the following of other subgenres of metal. Bands like korn, slipknot and limpbizkit started to get popular once grunge kind of died down.

While grunge was happening it was pretty "uncool" to like or listen to metal. The hardcore fans stayed obviously but metal was thought to be dead or dying by most fair weather fans. Once Curt Kobain killed himself grunge started to decline and a new breed of metal band started to emerge.

It was basically the equivalent of hair metal for the new generation of angsty generation X'ers of the 90's except with none of the focus on being technically proficient. Guitar solos were a big nono for these new bands. It wasn't cool to bust out a solo during a song.

Most if not all of it is pretty garbage as far as I'm concerned.

Hydra nailed it mostly

I like a few nu metal bands like these two

Nowadays I think Coal Chamber is terrible but I still think LD50 is a good album

Nu Metal has nothing in common with hard rock, thrash metal, or hair metal besides... really just nothing.

It was the "pop" metal of its time so it has that in common with hair metal.

And I think metal core is stuff like atreyu, avenged sevenfold, asking alexandria. Lots of screaming and breakdowns but less on the guitar solos or instrumental talent.

Yeah I would say those are metalcore bands alright but there are plenty of them that play solos and are pretty talented.

Guest

Avenged Sevenfold isnt even metal

Atreyu is like screamo shit

I dont know who Asking Alexandria is

I thought I was one of the few who hated Megadeth Endgame, lol. Just didn't click with me at all....

I like Slayer, Anthrax, some Metallica some Megadeth and Pantera. I change it up...but generally don't listen to much old school stuff

honestly I really like metalcore, I guess I like the melody in it. Killswitch Engage is what got me into 'metal' to begin with, then Slipknot's 1st cd

Guest

Guest

WHy would you think you were the only one to hate Endgame? lol

Megadeth has been a joke for a good while now

When I saw the big four about 4 years ago Megadeth played plenty of classics.

But he was a preachy little bitch between songs.
