M1014 - 4 round tube "magazine."

DAO-12 - 12 round drum magazine.

How is the M1014 going to compete with that? Wtf? Either the Benelli ends up doing waaaay too much damage or the Striker ends up the marshmallow gun of BF3.

M1014 will probably be comparable to the bc2 pump actions, where the DAO will probably be more like the Saiga/usas (damage wise).

from the videos though, the dao 12 looks fun as hell to use.

There's hardly any difference in damage between the semi-autos and pump actions in BC2 though. Not enough to make up for a 8 shell difference, for sure.

The USAS JR?

I actually saw one video of a guy using an M1014 with a 8 round cap. Probably an attachment, but damn I think it'll be worth it.

In BF2, the pump shotgun had much longer ohk range (back then there was no slug) than DAO-12 (yes, DAO-12 was in BF2). Also, it had tighter spread and in some cases it was possible to hit targets at long ranges for kills. Engineers had access to Default shotgun (US and maybe China had pump). Pump shotgun and DAO-12 was balanced in BF2, and if the formula carried over (not talking about BC series, those are not direct sequal for BF series), then it should be fine.

Also, on a completely side tracked note, not sure if it is announced or not, but I want flashbang (smoke replacement for F2000) to come back. LoL

Yeah, extended mags is an attachment for most guns.

What is their ammo limit in real life? If that's what it is, then that's what it should be.

Give the higher capacity/heavier one less carry ammo and a slower ADS and ADS movement speed to balance them. Slower reload. etc...

If they fire the same shell then I say the damage should be the same, plenty of other ways to balance them.

In real life the M1014 is 6+1.

Dumb that it's 4 in the game then.

I think its because people would have some ridiculous close range suppression capability with more than 4 consecutive possible kills before reloading, as I suspect that pumps will be brought back to their former glory (though no one really played Engineer in BF2 to run around shooting shotgun really, unless you were AT guy with DAO-12 as noobs did that mostly, MP5 was for the pros. LoL).

You can't really extend the magazine of the DAO-12. Its just 12.

JrTapia1991

JrTapia1991

it was used to balance probably. The M14 almost always had a 20 round magazine but in BC2 they had it with a 10 rounder,in Vietnam the PPSH41 in real life commonly used 76 round drums....but yet the drum mag in Vietnam held 25 rounds lol.

Shotguns are always hard to balence, it alwys seems to be worthless, or OP. Its just a difficult thing to do in these kinds of games to find a sweet spot with the scattergun.

hmm...

i hope they make the Dao-12 balanced, im a sportsman so i dont like using OP guns. if its too unfair ill have to wait until its patched.

I'm guessing they're just going to make the DAO have horrible spread so it will only really work super close range, like indoors. 1014 will probably have a tightly bunched spread that can be used at mid-range.

What other shotguns are confirmed? I want my 870 back!

check the stickied BF3 thread Fox, it has (almost?) all the weapons in the second post.

haha yeah i saw this earlier and was gonna post it in here... you beat me to it.

Hard to balance? Maybe if they have not had a success at it before (it was not perfect but was fine). Or maybe they lost the table of data they used in BF2? LoL

Anyway, the DAO-12 from the trailer of Physical Warfare seemed to have horribad spread, but thats just an unofficial and subjective observation.

Artimise Flare

Artimise Flare

DAO-12 has a significantly shorter barrel (7.5in) as opposed to the Benelli M1014 full length (18.5in) there fore, the M1014 will most likely have less spread and be more accurate at range. The DAO-12 is good for room clearing and super CQC engagements where increased magazine capacity can be extremely useful.

If they go off of what they had in BF2, the DAO-12 will also have some horrid reload times, due to the fact that you need to reload each round one at a time like most other shotguns (SAIGA and USAS being the exception of course)

Don't worry, I'm sure things will work out fine, they're going for more realistic ballistics and such this time around, so in a way, that should balance the guns out in their own way.

They decreased hipfire accuracy dramaticlly for shotgun. ADS is required now even in close range, unless spray and pray with semi auto or extremely close range.

It does not show pump (well I have not seen the full vid yet, only up til m1014), but with knowledge that ADS is useful now, pump shotgun probably will be able to hit long range targets (no matter how horribad the damage may be), and I am expecting some lucky headshot at long ranges.

I've seen that video, and in it you can see how horrible the M1014 is. I take no stock in it, though because it's alpha footage and the balance is going to be much different in beta.
