Basically, it ends on a downer - but in the same way that Dorothy left the land of Oz... all the races and species in the galaxy have become nothing but vague stories and myths that are passed down over the generations.
There was once this race called the 'Krogans/Turians/Quarians/Salarians' who helped 'The Shepard' defeat the race of devils called 'Reapers'. Heck - we don't even know for sure if the story we experienced was the truth or the embellishment of a legend passed down and altered over generations of storytelling. None of the races might even really exist
