Ninja Gaiden 3

Looks like this game is turning out to be a flop unfortunately...

I was was worried about them screwing it up a little bit trying to cater to the casuals, but holy hell they must have fucked it up big time. It blows my mind how one of the best action games ever can be turned into what is apparently one of the worst.

Maybe there's some mindless fun to be found in it though, I haven't really seen too much of it. Maybe people are just treating it harshly because of how good the previous ones are?

From what I nderstand the main force behind the last few games had nothing to do with this one.

Ars was onto something with that warning about QTEs.

Seems like the reviewers agree that the gameplay was dumbed down/simplified.

yeah when I heard about the QTEs all I could think was "gross". Also someone at work got it and was telling me you don't have ninpo in this one you just have an energy meter that once you fill up you can summon a dragon and it pretty much kills everything on screen. I thought that was kinda lame too.

yeah I definitely won't be playing this one. I still think the first one on original xbox was the best of the reboots.

I have the one for 360 NG2, and I had the one for PS3 NG sigma. So I was looking foreward to this game, but I didn't get it right away and it looks like I made the right decision.

yeah I played the shit out of the original and I have two but that one felt kinda meh to me.

and I'm sure this goes without saying but 1,2 and 3 for the NES were the bomb.

The ones for the NES were impossible, I played them on an emulator with unlimited save states and couldn't beat them.

The first one for the Xbox was mindblowingly amazing, second was just sort of more of that with not much improvement, but still a very solid game. I knew the third wasn't going to hold up when I saw QTE's also, but damn I didn't think they'd go so far to even take out shit like combos.

yeah the NES ones are hard as fuck but I still find them fun as shit. I'm a big fan of old school action-platformers so they are quite up my alley.

It's as you guys have been suspecting. I rented it for my PS3, I've played for a bit.

It's been as horrible as it sounds. QTEs everywhere, shitty combat, 1 ninpo, 1 (yes, ONE) weapon that you "upgrade" throughout the game to unlock some extra combos. Its moveset is even lesser than just 1 weapon from NG2.

I was ready for disappointment, so I'm not all that... disappointed <_< Give it a rent at most. I can't try the other modes because it requires an online pass, and honestly, the shitty single player doesn't warrant a purchase.

Ninja Gaiden is dead. We can only hope that a new Bayonetta comes up, and that Itagaki makes a top notch action game eventually. Those are the only ones that may even live up to have excellent combat, the other hack n' slash games around (ignoring DMC, that is sadly being sodomized too) don't measure up to those 2 in the combat department.

Just to make a mini review on what I've played.

This is NG3:
1.- Advance to arena.
2.- Kill enemy wave.
3.- Keep killing enemy waves until you kill 4-5 of them.
4.- Proceed to next area and repeat OR watch cutscene.

Both cutscenes and gameplay moments have QTEs.

Your ninpo is just a dragon summon which is basically an "I win" button once you have it. It kills everything and you regain health depending on how many enemies you kill.
UTs are pretty shitty. I'm too lazy to explain them, but it's a bit step down from the ones in NG2.

As much as NG3 is supposed to suck, I really like the idea of just 1 upgrade able weapon.

I much prefer a single weapon with a deep moveset than multiple weapons.

Is Itagaki actually involved in a new Bayonetta? Whatever he does I hope it turns out great.

It's not a deeper moveset. NG2's weapons had quite a deep combo system for each.

And no, I don't know if there will be a new Bayonetta. That's from Platinum Games. Itagaki is making... er... something about guns and swords. Not sure.
