Stupid question, how do I open FLAC files?

Downloaded the deliverance soundtrack, but its in FLAC.

Get a media player with FLAC support.

Well I wanna open them, and do whatever I need to to get them on thy ipod.

In that case you'll need a file converter that can handle flac and turn them into mp3 or something.

Apple has their "own" lossless format AFAIK. They don't support FLAC.

Not a whole lot of MP3 players support FLAC. I don't know why, it's a really widely used format. I really wish Apple and Microsoft would fucking recognize that shit and start supporting it.

I think only supporting their own lossless codecs is that bad, yes. I would have bought an iPod if they supported more formats. But they don't, and that's why I bought some random Korean MP3 player that supports nearly everything.

I mean as a programmer I can understand them being proud in their own codecs they made, but they've gotta just let FLAC be the king of lossless compression that it should be. We don't need ALAC, we don't need lossless WMA. FLAC has it covered. Let it be.

I understand that, and I honestly agree with you. But to be honest, it's kind of understandable. I mean, this somehow helps to protect their interests as a company, doesn't it? Promotes the use of their own proprietary system (iTunes)

They sure as hell think it supports their interests... but I certainly don't think it's the best strategy. Myself being a specific example of a customer lost due to their lack of support in this codec. I really wanted to get an iPod, but the lack of anything but their own lossless filetype support really killed it for me.

I just don't understand how it works in their benefit. It seems like they're too proud of their own codecs. And this pride only hurts the consumer IMO.

Apple hates competition. They are a skeevy, underhanded company who will do anything to make sure they don't have to compete with other products.

I may consider buying one of their laptops one day though... but fuck everything else. I wish Google would just squash them, or something. But then, I'll fear Google and their chances of becoming the next antichrist...

my main issue with apple is:

1) everything is proprietary and designed so that pretty much nothing else works, unless it is an apple product.

2) all the ''innovation'' is simply prettying up existing shit and putting a marketing spin on it. they actually invent very little.

3) morons blindly follow apple, and so competitors feel becoming more like apple is a good way to get customers (morons, but customers nonetheless). this pretty much stagnates design, as only apple-ish things sell. look at the Laptop/Ultrabook market, so much compromise on parts just to have the form factor of a macbook. grr.

4) overpriced as shit. my £850 laptop will blow the socks off a £1500 MBP, and even the newer Retina Display series since no-one in their right mind will use a 1GB GT650m for gaming at that resolution.

I believe they are suing someone right now because the UI this device uses has icons with rounded edges and apparently apple feel as though they own and invented rounded edges or some shit...And that's it. The UI of this device in no way resembles anything apple except for rounded edges...like seriously go fuck yourself apple.

Another lawsuit I believe involves them going after any phone that has rounded edges because that automatically makes them "iPhone-like"...again suing over stupid shit.

I don't think there's any reason a damn charger should be 35 bucks........then again there's probably china knock offs that would of worked for 1 dollar I could of gotten off amazon or something

I do like their OS. Though it's nothing special to be honest, I just have this stupid need to have a Windows Machine for vidyagames and overall compatibility, and a Linux and a Mac OSX machine. I don't know why

For the most part I absolutely agree with you guys. The whole approach of Apple is to steal other people's ideas and make them all shiny and new, but I have to say I admire Steve Wozniak. He's the one who was an actual innovator, and I think on the whole he was a good person and an icon in the computer world. Steve Jobs was just a dude who knew how to appeal to the masses.

It goes without saying, I'm obviously a Windows fan, though I actually do love my iPhone. It's useful, and since I'm not really looking for something too eclectic, I can deal with whatever limitations come up.

Just went through it myself. It's been modified, but I pretty easily ran up over 3k for the quad core, that wit the bare-bones picks.

I always talk shit about them when it comes to their hardware price, since they use completely generic things that you can find anywhere else. For example, I would NEVER fucking ever buy an Apple desktop. That's the dumbest thing anyone can do. I'm waiting to get a job next year to build myself a godly PC, which in Apple's price would probably cost me double of what I'll pay.

BUT, I'm considering later getting one of their laptops. I do like the OS, which is the only reason I'm considering it. But dunno, I might as well just make a Hackintosh. It really depends on how much expendable $$ I get.

My dad bought a Mac desktop a few months back. He has it, but it's such an annoying piece of shit.

If all you're after is the OS, you may as well just make a custom laptop, then either steal or buy the OS itself.

Yeah, I may end up just getting the OS. I liked it, in the litte time I got around to play with it. But then again, I've had no trouble with any OS I've used, I seem to like the different experience I get from them all.

To answer the original question in here...get FormatFactory, if I remember correctly it is free software and it is good for converting just about all types of files(video, audio, picture, etc...).
