Hmm. Are there nerves or blood vessels on that part of the eye?

I always thought it was cover over the iris. Some eye surgeries do involve removing that top part for a while.

No and no. The main nerve is the optic nerve, it's located farther back, away form the Cornea. Unless it managed to pierce to the ciliary muscles or conjuctiva (inner lids) then there would be no nervous system response beyond automatic immune.
