well....I don't think my laptop has much life left in it honestly,it's annoying as hell it gets so hot just browsing the internet (about 61c this cpu temp program says) and, instead of paying a bunch for another laptop, been thinking of a desktop build. Not sure on the monitor or power supply.

Anybody have a good cheap-ish mid tower?I really really doubt I'd ever need a full tower....I'm not an enthusiast. I've heard the i5 recommended so much over the i7,so I was thinking that.

i5 3570k cpu http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116504

gpu-maybe gtx 660ti http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127696

8gb corsair vengeance RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233144

dvd-cheap asus 16 dollar one lol http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204

motherboard- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128545

seagate 1tb 7200rpm HDD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148697

maybe ssd for boot time and for a game or 2

really not interested in overclocking,it would be my 1st build ever and I wouldn't wanna fry the damn thing lol. It intrigues me. Maybe dual monitors later on down the road, but I'm not interested in 3D at all.

Cool try to take it easy on me lol

I already have a g400 mouse I can use,and might get a 10 dollar walmart keyboard Razz unless there's a really cheap decent one out there

Stick on a fleshlight and I'd say you're set.

Don't be too afraid to overclock.

These days, especially if you use quality motherboard, the system will have safe measures against extreme overclocking or even a built in setting / auto function.

How much are you looking to spend on case anyway?

You can always get a replacement fans easily. They should all be standard sizes.

The HAF X is nice, but its full tower, and you said you wanted mid-tower.

I am using HAF XM, which is a mid-tower version.

One thing you want to consider is the cable management, as it can have some impact on your overall performance. Having great cooling system would not mean much if your cables are everywhere.

For power, its not like you spend more money on electricity just because you have high wattage power supply. And you don't need to upgrade it at all if you have decently powered one. So get a good PSU with decent power for future proof upgrade. Modular PSU would also be a good choice for cable management.

price points dropped on the AMD and I read that the 660 Ti is crippled by its memory bus, I was kind of turned off by it.

SAPPHIRE 100352-2L Radeon HD 7950 3GB 384-bit http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202006

my god looking at the reviews for a few AMD GPUs they sure do seem to have problems, alot claim black screens, but others say it's fine.....and,it comes with those free games like Far Cry 3,Hitman,etc haha

I believe AMD have more driver issues than Nvidia...that's why you'll get people saying it doesn't work. There can be compatibility issues.

ah...bleh,I want it to be as hassle free as possible, might just go the GTX 660ti after all....those free games with the 7950 aren't at the top of my most wanted list anyway..haha

I remember reading something on here I believe that companies make the game optimized better for the GTX cards as well?win win I guess Razz.

I've been reading all day on this stuff...man,last time I did,the GTX 460 was the best on the market haha, I heard even to this day it's decent >__>

any real difference between a monitor 1080p with speakers built in -vs- a regular 1080p tv? DVI to HDMI connectors are fairly cheap

http://www.amazon.com/Asus-VE228H-21-5-Inch-Integrated-Speakers/dp/B00413PHDM/ref=sr_1_7?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1352670989&sr=1-7&keywords=1080p+led+monitor+speakers+2ms

or.....one without speakers built in...

http://www.amazon.com/Asus-VS247H-P-24-Inch-Full-HD-Monitor/dp/B005BZNDS0/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1352670989&sr=1-3&keywords=1080p+led+monitor+speakers+2ms

the top one has 5ms response time, while the buttom one has 2ms response time.....can the human body even tell the difference?lol

Was asking because I can possibly get an actual "hdtv" 1080p for less or at least the same price, and the plus on that is I could use it if my current hdtv ever blows out, like having comonent, composite jacks, etc, along with the headphone jack.

Not going for anything big,24inch would be the biggest

nVIDIA does indeed support developers directly.

AMD has recently been having issues with driver issues with certain games on release (RAGE is a prime example).

For the difference between monitor and TV, there are not all that much these days, especially if you compare decent monitor to a decent TV. Usually, though, TV just has more input options along with several more features that monitor does not have.

Though, typically, the accuracy and response time of monitor is better than a TV, while TV tends to have wider viewing angle.

I have tried 16(!!)ms, 8ms, and 2ms. 16ms & 8ms to 2ms, there is quite a difference. 5ms might be ok, but even with 2ms there is still a noticeable "ghosting", although it may be subtle to some. To test it, just move your mouse cursor really fast on your screen with a background that does not blend with the cursor colour.

grrrrrrr Razz might snag a cheap hdtv on black friday if there's one

heard alot of bad reviews on that motherboard I was thinking about...(about gigabyte outsourcing the boards from their old Taiwan factory?)...and for the price it was ($179 roughly) it turned me off,was looking through pc topics here awhile back and this ASRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA1155 Intel seems good

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157293

also.....decided on this modular power supply...plus it's gold rated >__> . Was kinda paranoid on getting a 750w psu since I really really doubt I'd need that much, but apparently it only uses as much as it needs.
