Hey guys getting most of my parts in the mail today but won't really be fully operational untill i get my PSU and GPU next week. Was curious if the SeC has any opinions on what strategy games i can check out turn based/rts

So far i was thinking the Civ series and Total War Shogun 2

Company of Heroes.

Civ 5 or 4

Total War series are good. (I like the rome series personally)

those are my favs

StormEye

StormEye

Warning for CiV. If you happen to be one of those people who "clicks" with civilization games, you will be wasting a heck of a long time playing it. Though, that does not necessarily mean its a bad thing. LoL

Also, StarCraft?

Artimise Flare

Artimise Flare

Company of heroes
Warhammer dawn of war I & II
Command and conquer franchise

CoH is by far the best IMO my most favorite RTS of all time.

CoH,

It is rated #1 RTS....and it deserves it.

That game is unique and exremely well done.

The sequel looks like its shaping up to be amazing. I wonder if Relic will ever do one set in the modern era, perhaps following a DoW II format, focusing on small squads for a the campaign or something. A fictional war perhaps? If not that I would like to see a Pacific theater expansion or one based in Vietnam.

I got CoH in the THQ bundle but haven't played it yet. Sounds like I should give it a go.

And I second Civ 5. Anyone who tells you time travel doesn't exist has never played a Civ game.

Empire Earth 2(dirt cheap now,it's back from years ago) got me into the whole RTS stuff. I barely play them because they're such a timesink, but have such a good feeling when stuff starts going right, makes you feel badass haha. But it's all in real time with the CPU going against you....not turn based like Civ

Civ 4 or 5.

Steam had Civ 3 complete edition the other day and I got it for like 2 bucks lol.

Alpha I am a part of....terribly optimized...I should be able to run medium...cant even hit minimum....But i get beta access to so hopefully its better then.

Also Men of War is aparently a bad version of CoH...and there are modern war mods for CoH overhaul of names and looks of units....and maps to make em resemble modern battles.

Company of Heroes, most fun rts i've ever played
Starcraft II is fun to watch but it's too hard to be worth playing for serious
Age of Empires III
Dwarf Fortress is pretty amazing but you will have to spend a few hours learning how to play. Plus it's free

Sc2 is easy to learn, but super hard to master.

Play with Koreans and you will become good very fast.

As long as you do not destroy your computer until you reach that status.

well yeah. It's not hard to play the campaign or anything but i was an hour into playing multiplayer with build orders written down on a piece of paper on my desk and a wiki page open on the side when I realized that i already had a job and went to play something fun.

To be fair, alpha is alpha and beta is beta. Hopefully when they get to Beta they will have ironed out a lot of the kinks.

Wish I was a part of Beta but time with work and such is sucking away my gaming time.

Embarassed any tips for starcraft from people here?lol. I want to try to get decent with the zerg before I play as anything else (they just seem cool to me)

well,I heard it's good to setup like 3 sunken colonies around your base, then 3 spore colonies to keep air stuff away...but....before I knew it,my friend had a WHOLE FUCKING ARMY of Zerg Guardians and Ultralisks and Devourer's (I think that's what they were....the big floating Oyster things that shoot poison gas >__> )

and I think the Guardian had some upgraded acid attack >__> I felt so helpless lol.

I tried looking around online and youtube some, but only find stuff for SC2

I also don't know when it's good to expand out to other bases.....and how many units total I need and of each kind >__> ,then his 20 Lurkers burrowed and got me with those tentacle attacks

If you can understand Korean, you have LOTS of resources to try out different strategies.

There were a lot of noobs back in the days of brood war, it's funny just steam rolling someone on that game.. There were a good amount of hackers too, don't know how they worked that out in SC2 though.

zerg is a pretty hard race imo. But basically when just starting out, play only against the PC until you get used to it. Build lots of static defense and wait until the PC does their first push then start expanding and after that it's not bad.

I'm getting a little better.....the defiler and Queen just seem useless to me. In SC2 I watched a vid and they said now the queen can heal other things and make more babies

any tip on where to keep the overlords?Way out of sight?Or some around the base too?

How many hatcheries?In this one game I won against the CPU zerg,I built about 5 hatcheries,2 spires,3 evolution chambers,about 10 spore colonies,maybe 4 sunken colonies (would of made more but I won) ,eh about 20 zerglings,20 hyrdalisks,20 guardians,20 devourers,maybe 4 ultralisks

next time I was thinking instead of sunken colonies I could have some Lurkers buried by the front of the base scattered around,I think they act like stronger Sunken Colonies.

I really like the game though,it's cool.
