15 yo girl is gang-raped, no one cares

Reading this made me feel ill.

Quick recap:
In Steubenville, Ohio a faction of Anon is protesting what they're calling a "vast conspiracy of silence". The group involved (know as KnightSec) is protesting the judgements of two boys of the Big Red High School football team. The case involves what is essentially the gang-raping of a 15 yo girl by numerous members of the football team, with at least one other girl confirmed raped and many others suspected (the guys who did it are known as "The Rape Crew" around the school). Of all of the suspected players, only two were arrested, and both were passed off in juvenile court with a misdemeanor charge (for rape) and were NOT registered as sex offenders.

The reasons this is such a massive issue is that the entire town is implicated in this. Evidence proving the events that transpired and implicating more of the players was willfully destroyed by the sheriff of the county, Fred Abdalla, and his deputies. This same sheriff has been known to run a gambling ring, based around the successes of the football team, from the Spot Bar in Steubenville. What makes this information even more astounding is that the Spot Bar is a well known meeting place for drug dealers of all sorts, and that Sheriff Abdalla's brother is one of the largest importers of cocaine into Jefferson County. The Spot Bar is also well known for allowing underage persons to drink and smoke in the bar at any time past 10pm. In addition, the proprietor of the bar has on numerous occasions invited and server underage girls with the express purpose of flirting with them.

More fun stuff. The (fucking idiot) boys on the football team tweeted pictures of themselves carrying an unconscious girl, as well as videotaping themselves talking about the rape (quote: "She's dead man, no way you're just asleep with a wang in the butt", the second half of that sentence was also tweeted by multiple parties).

One of the girls who was raped originally stepped forward in order to sue for justice. She was deterred by Jane Hanlin, prosecuting attorney for Jeffrerson County. Mother of one of the implicated boys, she discouraged the victim's family from taking the boys to court. And in a move of obvious, blatant corruption, she did a divorce case for one Edward Lulla. He was an agent of the BCI sent in to aid the rape investigation (it is also documented that Ms. Hanlin went to dinner with him many times), he declared that the investigation was sound. Some time later, his son was promoted into the Police Force, lowest ranking out of a pool of three candidates.

On the one hand, those kids ultimately kill my faith in humanity.

One the other, KnightSec and all the people supporting them makes me feel a lot better, since I know that there are people out there who don't stand for shit like this.

Basically, the fact that some people are going out of their way to fight and punish those people, and going so far as to break the law to do it, helps me feel better about the human race.

We still suck though.

They should all be castrated in public.

You've missed the point entirely. The fact there has to be a group that actively supports DOING THE RIGHT THING means we're already lost. Think about it, we need activists working to find loopholes in the judicial system, just so the scum of the earth can go to jail?

You said it yourself, they need to BREAK THE LAW in order for justice to be served. The judicial system is meant to protect the innocent, if it can't do that, then we are lost my friend.

There has ALWAYS been government injustice. That's a constant throughout history. The fact that we have groups dedicated to doing anything to protect justice, that makes me happy.

While I agree that it's pitiful and horrifying that the judicial system can fail so badly, it's nothing really new. The Law has been failing people since Hammurabi.
