1Question about SSD Empty Question about SSD 2013-01-09, 21:18

maybe in a month or so I'll get a 250gb SSD,but,my question is....how would I go about putting my Windows 7 OS on it,because it's OEM.....

would I be cool since it's the same motherboard and everything?

Thinking of this one,it's on sale from newegg,Corsair SSD

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233312

then I guess I'd be done, got some Purple and Green 200mm case fans coming in. I should get another case fan, this red one on the front of my case isn't very bright.

Unless there's a better SSD for the money? I heard Mushkin(?) are cheap SSDs,some say they're good, some say they're junk and get "slow" within months,I guess failing?

I dont understand your question

Are you asking how to install your OS on the SSD? literally?

Because if thats what your asking you cant just transfer it, you would have to reinstall directly to the SSD.

Im like 99% sure

oh no,I just mean would I have problems with the OS because it's OEM? I heard you can only install them once ever or something

First off get a samsung 840 or 840 pro. Second, do you need 250GB? I have a 128gb SSD and even with the OS, all applications, and 5 games I have 40 gb left. Also read these on how to install and treat the SSD.

250 is not enough if you do not have secondary drive. And more free space the ssd has more speed.

On the subject of os installation, I think you should be ok. MS usually checks CPU Mobo for windows validation.

yea I have a 1tb seagate. Could have gotten 1.5tb for like the same price but the 1.5tb version had horrible reviews. Also have a 1.5tb Toshiba external USB 3.0. Made a system image to the external the other day. Probably going to get a USB to do a recovery "disk" from it instead of having to worry about a disc scratching up.

Then he should be ok if he picks and chooses what games he installs in his SSD. Some games these days take up LOTS of space, and installing several of them already fills up 250 and starts to eat into the performance.

I intend to only have my OS on an SSD while leaving my 7200RPM HD' being relegated to games and other software only.

Not true for todays SSD's. More space does not = faster. They will only slow down if you do not leave 10% - 20% free.

yea that's true I could just go with a cheaper 120gb. I don't think games would honestly benefit enough to notice a difference for me for the price of a big drive.

I was thinking about a 500gb-750gb "hybrid" drive as well though.

I'm thinking I'll maybe get a 64gig SSD soon. Just for my OS, not much else really. MAYBE Chrome, maybe Skype just because they're my most frequently used programs.

yea true,I could go with a small cheap one....just for the OS. I doubt games would run much better to be worth the cost >__>

You will notice drastic reduction in loading times if the game in subject has a lot of loading of big chunks of data. If its a small game that does not have much loading to begin with, then it's got negligible performance boost, though.

Hey just a question for ya'll, do you think a 64gb SSD would be large enough if I plan to just have my OS on it?

My current 1TB HD will be my primary for video games etc, with a 500gb HD on the side for media and such.

lol, I have 465 gigs all together, with 250 of it free. And that's with a TON of games I don't play installed. Without them, and only the bare bones, probably close to 100 gigs could be cut
