The league is taking hard stance against these types of hits

Some fines got laid out this week behind some hard hits:

I think it's slightly overblown. Some of the hits were ugly. Some I didn't consider intentional. It's going to hurt defensive backs a lot. They are going to hold back more. But I also don't want to see anyone paralyzed. So I'm torn on this.

Maybe I'm getting old but when I saw the hit on Desean Jackson I felt sick. 5-10 years ago I would have thought it was awesome.

Blows to the head should be taken seriously but I don't know how you enforce this without changing how the game is played.

One thing I think about is how it seems recently more and more helmets are coming off during plays and the thought of someone taking a hit like Jackson did sans helmet scares the hell out of me.

Jackson's hit was awful. He was out fuggin cold.

At least some of this decision making has to be in light of that Rutgers player who was paralyzed this week against Army.

The only thing I see being a problem is consistency. We already see different refs calling penalties differently. I do think defenders can monitor themselves, and it is something the NFL needs to address for the long term health of their players.

It's a legal issue for the NFL. They are concerned about players and very concerned about liability.

Personally, I don't thing spearing another dude with your helmet adds anything to the game. As y'all pointed out, it's basically just distracting because a dude getting hury badly is just a bummer and it means a starting player is off the field for a few weeks. Bad for everyone.

I don't agree that it's 'part of the game.' I was watching a bunch of Ronnie Lott highlights last night and funny thing is he ran over dudes but NOT ONE highlight showed him doing the mess they try these days.
