my mom wants one, but it absolutely can be bottom of the barrel stuff, I'd just prefer it not be a netbook >_> unless modern ones are any good

If you can find a government resale going on(they usually travel around) they are dirt cheap there. I once got my parents a desktop (that was an engineering desktop at NASA) and a 17" flat panel monitor for a total of $92...brand new the system I got retailed for a few grand.
