If you do go look how much cheaper it is on amazon mp3 and it is actually higher quality.

Yeah plus iTunes is always in .m4a format right? That format makes me want to punch things. It's really annoying how Apple and Microsoft like to make competing formats instead of just using the good ones like FLAC and MP3.

Or you could buy CD's and somewhat-legally download it. I download a few for free/watch em on youtube a lot until I'm convinced a CD is worth buying. Then i buy it. CD's>All.

I don't like buying from itunes simply for the fact that it would lock me into using iPod / iPhone only (though I am currently using iPhone).

I buy my musics from Asian sites that provide such services.

That's what a friend of mine seems to do; he'll torrent a couple of songs from a CD, and if he likes it, he'll go and buy the CD. I usually just buy CD's, because I don't understand how to buy things online.

I don't buy it. I use this website hypem.com. It searches music blogs for whichever song you type in, and a lot of them have the MP3 on them.

buying a cd costs about 2 to 3 times as much as buying it off of amazon mp3.

What? Where are you getting that from? You save probably $2 on average, depending on the CD. I've bought CD's for about $3 including shipping also.

Plus, nothing beats a physical copy. You get lossless quality(my biggest gripe against Amazon/iTunes is that they have no option for this), and you still have it if your computer crashes.

You can always burn an mp3 to a cd or back it up on a mp3 player or back up hard drive.

And if you want an original and not a crappy disk that has no pictures? I honestly don't care but my sister is someone who loves having the physical copy, and I know she would absolutely hate to just have a disk with no art on it or anything.

I love having a physical copy too. Music isn't just some silly entertainment thing for me. I love it with a passion. I support the artists I buy music from, because a lot of them aren't very popular and don't make a ton of money anyway. Also Tom, I have a great Record store here that I like to support because it's an awesome store. They always have good prices, a lot of local music, and a lot of in-store performances. I don't like amazon at all really either. I buy used stuff off of there only, and only occasionally.

You can print the album art...

I honestly think it's just personal preference. Some people, like myself, prefer the personal experience of buying the CD's from a store and having a physical item, while others just want the cheapest thing, which is often free downloading. If music weren't that big a deal to me, I would definitely download it for free or just get the cheapest MP3's off Amazon or whatever. However, I do spend money on CD's and I am quite content with it.

You don't care much for authenticity do you? There's something fulfilling about having a shelf full of legit owned media, be it music, movies, or a TV series.

I buy my music and movies but will always go with the cheaper price so I can get more. ( movies are a waste buying digitally and I will buy an actual album if it is a band a really like.)

Those $5 albums are special deals, not the norm. Most of them are stuff I don't want, the rest are albums I already have. Their regular mp3 albums are usually around $10. I've even found some cases where you would save money getting the CD.

I am just glad none of you buy music from itunes.

iTunes is terrible. I hate that even if you download a song on one computer but it crashes, you can't redownload it without paying. I stopped using it years ago.
