I made the mistake of downloading an infected ROM emulater. It was the only emulater of a specific game I could find, and even though I knew it didn't look legit, I downloaded it anyways.

Now I am constantly getting those damn "Windows Security Alert" pop ups on my task bar.

Gauugh! Now I am getting freaking annoying porn pop-ups.

I haven't done anything like that in a week or two.

Where do I get it and shit?
I have very basic computer hardware knowledge. So is it easy to use and whatnot?

Edit: Tried downloading it. Start to try and install it and it cancels and I get a message on my taskbar saying "WINDOWS SECURITY ALERT" and then tells me the application avg_what_ever can't be opened as it is infected.

Malwarebytes is good(a lot of how-to remove specific virus tutorials use this), and I've also heard good things about Microsoft Security Essentials.

And those security alerts are probably part of the virus. Try it in safe mode.

I would send a bigger meaner virus after the original virus

I mean what could possibly go wrong

I also recommend malwarebytes. This thing works.

Try just looking for the virus in your programs and uninstall it. It worked for me with Loudmo.

3rd vote for Malwarebytes

Run it in safe mode, don't bother with anything else until you do this.

Problem is, the virus may block the use of this which is why doing it in safemode is required. If you can't run it in safe mode then you're probably hosed and you'll need to do a system restore and hopefully the last restore point was before you contracted the virus.

Make that another vote for Malwarebytes. I work in IT at a subcontractor for NASA and when we get one that the normal supplied anti-virus won't get rid of we use it. Also if you want the full version of it its a one time $30 cost...give or take a few $$$.

Ok so how should I go about using it? I should download it and then try removing the virus in safe mode right?

Yes. Run it in safe mode until you get a clean reading. Then run it again in normal mode just to be safe.

Hopefully this virus isn't the type that prevents you from downloading stuff.

This is what I used to fix exactly the problem you're having. It worked so good I bought it.
