Ok I got a problem with games running on my laptop for any techy people out there. It only happens with medieval 2 total war and shogun 2 total war, they both run fine till roughly 30 hours play time. After that when I get an hour or so in on the game it will crash and my computer will shutdown. No bluescreen or anything computer runs fine afterwards. At first I thought it was an overheating problem so I bought an external fan but that doesn't help at all. If anyone has a suggestion I'd really appreciate it.

Does the performance keep going down until the laptop crashes?

If I'm in a battle or something It will run slowly for 5 minutes or so then it'll crash but if im on the campaign map I cant notice it.

Does this happen with any other games? (you most likely do not have enough ram or recourses to run the game so it crashes)

The only games I've had it happen on are the tw ones. But they're also the only ones that I put 30 or more hours into. Do you think I should just a ram card?

Did this problem happen all the time in the 30 hours you played these games? Could I also know what the specs are on the laptop?

the problem only happens after 30ish hours into the game then it starts crashing. I'll get you the specs on the laptop but it'll take a bit of digging it was a gift from my dad a few years ago.

Again sounds like your laptop can not handle it. Are the games on the lowest graphics setting? Also to get the specs on your laptop just type "system" into the search bar on your computer.

That's weird that it only does it after playing them for so long...

Do the games get more graphically intensive after that point? Like is there more stuff on the screen?

If it only happens as time goes on... maybe its overheating?

Make sure your laptop isnt on your lap/carpet as that doesnt circulate at all.

As I can understand, you're saying that after you have 30 hours clocked (no continued play), it fucks up.

My guess is the same as Chewy. By that point in the game, you may have too much shit on the screen. Try a new game, where you will have a low amount of things on screen.

Well the strange thing about this is I never had this problem till 6 or so months ago when I first got the laptop I had at least 60 hours into medieval 2. So it can handle it as for the bigger battles I've tried starting new campaigns it does the same thing it doesn't matter if I'f fighting a pitched battle of 250v250 or a massive siege with thousands on troops it will eventually crash. Anyway heres the specs I'm an idiot with computers so if I miss anything crucial in these let me know.

Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 @ 2.40ghz, 2401 mhz, 2 Core

First off that is a very little amount of ram. We also need the graphics card.
