Yea, I don't see the problem either.

Females, that don't have to meat the same standards of men getting their way onto stuff they shouldn't cause of the bar being lowered for them.

You're not in the military, so it doesn't affect you. I think it's pretty ridiculous that you're upset by this.

As a former sailor, I see no problem with it. I worked with females who worked just as hard as the men; and I worked with men who hardly did any work at all.

I'm going to Fort Benning in January, then to Ranger training, then deployment. I'm just saying if they want women to be phased in, then make the requirements the same.

Where did it say the requirements were different? I missed that part.

Check the requirements for military servicemen. They are lowered for women everywhere.

I'm actually against this. I'm all for women in the military, don't get me wrong, but I do feel that true equality requires the same guidelines - for everyone.

Though I'm too lazy to click on that link, so I don't know how different the guidelines actually are. My $.02.

It is pretty stupid. When the your submarine starts sinking in the ocean, reality is not gonna come by and start assigning tasks, "Shore is 5 miles away. All men must swim 5 miles to safety, all women must swim 3 miles because they are less capable and that seems fair".

If women want the same role as men, they have to prove they can do the same things. If anything, that the military is willing to let women do the same things with less physical ability is just a testament to the fact that the physical requirements of the military aren't even necessary.

they probably aren't even necessary....when you can pick people off long range with an M16 what does it matter how long you can run/etc. ?

I never got that.I guess it's to make the army not appear "lazy" but damn.I mean, honestly to me,if you have guns,well...that's all you need Very Happy and ammo. The military pretty much has unlimited funds for vehicles and gas and food, ammo, guns, planes, bombs, nukes, etc.

I even saw a lazer gun vid Razz

I agree it's stupid they lowered the requirements for woman. My mom said back when she was growing up,it was unheard of for women to even join the military pretty much...if they did it was only nurses, but never anything else.

I think Grey's just mad he isn't a girl.
Or, you know, he hates women.
Either way.

I'm all for equality, but in reality, women just aren't (usually) as physically strong as men. Does this mean we shouldn't be able to be cops/firemen/military personnel? No. It's kind of like comparing the guys who only meet the minimum to the guys who super excel.

Maybe we should just lower the standards for men, so we can have a military full of fatties.

Oh wait, we do. Wait until you see some of them in the Navy and Air Force. I don't know how those people manage to pass height/weight standards and pass the PRTs.

I understand that, but in that case, the standard should be lowered for everyone.

I don't mind women in civil service. It's not like they are in a warzone 24/7. I don't hate women, or do I want to be one. You have to deal with breast cancer, periods, births, PMSing, MS, and more. We only have to deal with getting kicked in the balls (which somehow happens a lot) and prostate cancer. I give mad props to women, but it is a fact women aren't built as strong. So please, make it truly equal.

i think women have just as much of a right to be in the military as a man does, but not necessarily in the same roles, if that makes any sense?

i have several family members and very good friends who are female and have served in the military, and i have nothing but the deepest respect for them and what they went through while doing it.

but, i would not want to be the only set of tittays in a unit full of dudes, just sayin'.

I wrote a paper about this for my english 102 class. It was hard having to choose a side really, both sides had very valid points, backing them up with scientific evidence most of the time.

I don't have a problem with women in the service, and while I don't necessarily agree that their physical standards are lower than that of males, I feel that most of those who have chosen the life of duty to their country will step up to the plate when they are called upon to do so.

It is indeed a known fact that women cannot develop the same upper body strength like a man, however, studies have shown that concerns about military readiness, unit cohesion and the concern about general health issues that only apply to women are indeed things that should not be of much worry. If I recall Germany allows women to serve in combat roles as of January 2001.

The problem I see is that military service, especially combat oriented roles, have this image of being a "Mans" world. What comes to your mind first when you think of a soldier? A muscular man defending his cause against his vile enemies that seek to destroy everything he holds dear.

It's not so much a fact that women are incapable of doing the same things as men, but more so a fact that society is not ready to completely accept the fact that women are going to war and doing the same jobs as their male companions.

This is my 2 cents on the topic. I've got a headache so I don't think I'll go too much further into this lol.

I havent served in the Navy so I wouldnt know, but it doesnt seem like physical strength would really be that inportant on a ship. Seems like most of the work would be maintenance which women can do just as well.

Seeing as the requirements are put in place to help prevent you from dying and stuff, I kinda agree with Grey here on this being a bad idea.

I'm all for women rights and everything but this isn't really a step in the right direction. War really isn't the place to play nice and make sure everyone gets a turn.

This is a quote that I think sums up anyone who takes the oath of service and gender really makes no difference.

"Military service members are those who swore an oath to their country while signing a blank check stating, paying everything up to and including my life"

I don't remember where I heard it before, but I certainly liked it Razz Regardless of the physical requirements, both men and women have shown time and again that, gender aside, are capable of remarkable acts of heroism and courage.

women should be able to serve in the army. but if im in a squad with a women who cant get me to safety becuase she couldntr clear debris a man could, or run to get there in time, then i sure as fuck would want a man over a women (he he).

its bullshit that requirements are different. thats the main issue. if womens requirements still allow women to perform to her best ability in combat, then why arent the standard the same for men?

if the requirements for a women are low to the point where they will be tired running through streets or clearing debris is hard/impossible for them then they have to get stronger or not serve.
