Anybody ever try Hybrid Hard Drives?

500gb for $71....they have a 750gb I've seen on sale for about $100 before,but right now it says it's 120

anybody ever try these out? An SSD would be a tiny bit faster,but...for the huge space a hybrid drive seems really nice

Ok, I might have to consider this. I want to get an SSD, but this seems like it'd be useful.

yeah it seems really nice,I might get the 750gb version instead of an SSD. Insanely fast boost speeds for the OS didn't matter much to me anyway,I'm not picky on that lol

the way one of the guys in my Java class explained it, it's basically a standard hard drive with a smaller SSD cache, so it can be used to quickly boot up the OS, and then the standard HDD would take over.

yeah, it stores your most used files (basically your OS startup files) on a small SSD chip, and uses the HDD for the less used files.

you can also have an HDD with an mSATA chip separately, which has a similar effect as a hybrid drive. a hybrid drive just has the chip integrated into the HDD.

also if you get a large enough mSATA drive you could use it as a boot drive but you'd have to mess with settings in the BIOS to accomplish that. Turn off caching and whatnot.
