Ok kids, gimmi a round up on BF cos i aint actually played since BF2 Very Happy

Them jets require 2 men right? Theres no way you can fly that shit and target bombs in solo Razz

There were two distinct types (three if you consider F-35B as separate category) of fixed wings.

Fighter and Attacker/Bomber.

Fighter and bomber had pretty much same except in few areas. They both had air to air missiles AND bombs to drop (unlike now, which forces you to choose between AA or AG). Differences were
1. Performance of the aircraft. Fighter was more nimble and there were more of them on a given map than a bomber. Bombers only existed in certain maps only, and only above certain map size.
2. Fighter = 1 seater Bomber = 2 seater
3. Fighter drops two large unguided bomb. Bomber drops 5 smaller bombs in a longer trail, which ends up doing much more massive damage.
4. Bomber can have co-pilot who is responsible for laser guided missile, where he can lock onto enemy vehicles. Co-pilot does not rely on other targeting assistance from main-pilot, so they both can be engaging different targets.

Thats what I can think of on top of my head, at the moment.

Just give me a fighter with AA missiles, I'll fly cover air patrol all day Very Happy

I remeber playing 2142, and flying thru building sidewards and upside down under bridges, ALWAYS saw a shit to of ppl parachuting out, like dont you trust me guis? lmao

2142 air vehicles were more or less Ospray style control. I don't recall them being able to traverse upside down, or at least for a prolonged period of time. Though, I was walker pilot during 2142, so I had little time spent in air vehicles compared to walkers.

Fighters AND bombers in BF2 both had AA and AG at the same time. So, you actually can bomb people while you shoot other air vehicles down.

RStudios

you could fly them upside down on 2142, least on pc anyway. It used to be best way to lose a tail in a dogfight

RStudios

what I used to do is roll upside down as i entered the underneath of a bridge, and when i came out i could pull back behind the person following me

Was there another version for a platform other than PC, for 2142?

Well I dunno, lets take syms word for it Razz

Was my fav of the BF games I played anyway, my comp cant handle anything much now untill i spend like £1000 on it. I keep getting close to saving for it, then bills hit and wipe me out again haha.

Ive played every BF game made

Even the crappy Heroes.

But I never used to fly in jets, as I got owned pretty hard in them. I dont remember any of the aerial weapons really from older games.

The AA gun from 1942 was just too menacing to do anything against. It could even destroy tanks from a great distance, so unless there was a good sniper in the team, that AA gun could rip anything apart.

RStudios

The jets in 2142 wernt hard to fly, easy handling and wernt too fast. COuld do some epic tricks with them once you had a feel for them.

My fav used to be burning jet = cruise missile.... then parachute out Very Happy

I was pretty good at that game, But I did come from CS, playing competitively in leagues and for money (long time ago, I cant shoot shit now)

One game I thought I was pretty damn good at (CS) until we played NiP once, in a friendly for the lulz... and got slaughted, we were dead before we even saw them lmao, 56k connections ftw Very Happy

I really hope they have dumb fire bombs, something that actually would involve a lot of skill. They were the best in BF 1943 once you got good with them.

Wouldn't something fire and forget be the opposite of skill based?

Zillah

No, its a gravity bomb, so you drop it off your plane, and it follows its own ballistic trajectory until it hits the ground/a target.

Word

Yeah basically you would have to target it alot more than those lock on and fire missiles

StormEye

Dive bombing makes bombing a lot easier than it sounds.

Yes, the catch with Assault jets in BF2 was that they flew like a brick, even more so than the POS F35, so trying to dog fight with say a J10 (most OP jet in the damn game) or a MIG and you'd likely get your ass handed to you on a silver platter. That was also when you could "kick" flares away from your jet to try and force enemy AA missiles away from you and do crazy corkscrews, as well as having main cannons that did splash damage (Yes, jets were even worse, in BF2 in the hands of a good pilot)

As for dumb fire bombing, it was the only means a jet could OHK an enemy tank or APC as the man cannon did practically nothing and it would take multiple strafes to kill an enemy tank. Further more, your ammo was finite, meaning you had to flay back over the carrier or airfield to reload (Didn't have to actually land) thus making a miss with your bombs very time consuming.

That could be a laser guided bomb/missile in the pic ante posted.

It's a dude in mid-air.

seems cool, and it would of been cool to have multiple types of jets for bombing or only got AA being light and nimble...instead of just 1 type in bf3 pretty much. But then I guess even more people would of been camping them and not playing the objective >_>
