My mom wants me to make her a compilation of all my 70s music for her for christmas. Of course that must include my ZZ top, because hey, it's firggin zz top. Except all their are chock full of sexual innuendos. Like Tube Snake Boogy is really catchy... but...

I'm trying to decide if she will actually realize all of the innuendo in the songs or not.

Yup. Or Grunge? Actually, I used to be a grunge maniac, but now I've realized that every decade really has something good. 60's=Velvet Underground and the Doors
70's=Punk-Sex Pistols, Clash, etc.
80's=Sonic Youth, Pixies, Violent Femmes, all those good alt-rock bands
90's=Grunge
00's=Indie (not the lousy kind)/Lo-Fi-Japandroids, No Age, Starfucker, Deerhunter, etc.

Fair enough. I've never been a fan of the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Van Halen, The Who, or Led Zeppelin. Just my taste. And I would say that 00's /end good mainstream music, hence my listening to non-mainstream music.

I personally think that the 80's was the end to good mainstream music, and the only good mainstream band that came out of that decade was the Chili Peppers. I mostly just hate 80's drums, so damn repetitive.


Definitely some exceptions though, for example I think MGMT is a good mainstream band of today. But in general mainstream music has sucked for a long while IMO.

Basically the 90's = Grunge. I hate Soundgarden and Alice in Chains, and also Nirvana is pretty bad IMO so there's nothing much for me there. To me grunge all sounds like variations of Nickelback.

I tried to like them, but I couldn't do it. There's no guitar skill or much of anything catchy to the songs. It's just repetitive and monotone.

I don't need lyrics either, but there's nothing else appealing to their music to me. I listen to some songs purely for lyrics, like Harry Chapin or even some Metallica songs.
