here is a summery since you obviously have some issues with reading comprehension. My comment was about what they did with all of the data collected after work. Your walmart comment made me believe you were referring to tracking after work so that is what I was talking about. I am still kinda lost as to the point you are trying to make here though. Maybe it is that having a company log everywhere you go is ok as long as you get a free car and phone?

I think Tom is the one with reading comprehension problems. I've have to repeat myself so many times I went and got a parot so tom could here everything twice.

Adli wrote:tom, lowjacking happens all the time.

loads of government vehicles are lowjacked, if they get stolen or crashed you can trace the locations. lowjacking business cars makes it harder for people to skive off work, and also recover stolen vehicles.

the company cars can be left at the office. you are doing your job when on shift, and leaving the car at the office when you are not. ''OMG HES DOING HIS JOB'' is all they will find out from the log.

and as for the phone:

A) you can leave it at the office, just like the car. if you dont want to be tracked, buy your own damn phone.

B) YOU CAN TRACE THE PHONE ANYWAY. if it has a signal you can track it. the only way to not get tracked is to take the battery out or block the signal.

C) technically its not your phone, so you wont be allowed to tamper with it as DL already said.
You are missing the point. What is a company doing with all this location data that they are saving since almost no one is going to leave a car or phone at the office?

You are repeating yourself so much because you have nothing left to say. I get it. You can leave the free phone and car at work after you are done.

chunky I am so sorry that me asking what happens with all the data that is recorded after you leave work is suck a hard concept for you to grasp.

It's not new that companies track employees, or that people in general are being tracked. Since the inception of GPS, it's been installed in more devices. I'm not a conspiracy guy, but with all that info flying around I'm sure it's being tracked by someone.

Two things:

1) I know someone who was arrested because her cell phone was being tracked by the police, and when they got the info they needed, they followed her using the cell.

2) Sort of related: My boss watches the DVR camera feeds at work to see what we are doing at night.

Probably saving it and keeping it for reference in case any legal issues that the data could aid with come up.

I don't see what the big deal is. They are saying "Hey, have this free phone with a tracking device. Take it or leave it."

If you take it, you know you are being tracked.

What the hell is there to say. All your arguments are invalid! You keep asking the same damn question so I keep repeating myself hoping you'll get it. But it's ok I get it now. Don't worry I'll keep it to myself and I won't let the others know and embarass you.

You never gave me a reason why my argument is invalid. All you keep saying is I should take it and not care or leave it.

Production, safety, make sure your on schedule for things. I don't like being tracked, but it's gonna keep happening. It's just better to be aware.

There are so many ways a company could restrict you from that data and you would most likely need to hire a ton of lawyers and take them to court to even get the information. Look what happened in Germany a while back where a guy had to bring his phone service to court just to know what they do with the tracking information they gathered.

Germany laws are very similar to US laws when it comes to stuff like this at least that is what I have read looking into the story.

Meh. I'm not particularly worried about being tracked. Now, if I ever become a criminal, I might be ditching my phone.

Tom, the after hours info probably doesn't get much attention if the people choose to take their phones home with them. Since generally the company is only interested in you doing your job when you are on the clock. They may not be able to turn the app on and off at a whim, especially if their workers work odd hours.

Yes they could very easily actually if they do not use the secret file. If they use the secret file they could just build the app that accesses and logs the information to only save what was recorded only on work hours.

BUt what if they have random work hours that change every day? They might not be able to arrange that, is what I'm saying. Not everyone works the same days and same hours every time.

Unless they could make it like a timecard, but that might not be possible. Plus you'd then have to worry about them turning it on or off randomly, so you'd always have to check.

They could very easily make an app ping their server so that they know how long the person with the iphone has to work and then log all the data. I am sure it that they tell you that you can not turn off the phone or you are fired since it is a work phone. And again the app could be designed so that it can send info until the phone shuts off and then turns itself back on when the iphone comes back online. They are purposely recording and saving the information that get of their employees after hours.

...Do you suffer from Paranoia (like texasmace)?

Why worry about it? It's not happening to you, and the people it is happening to know and have accepted it. They have agreed to accept the company phone that they have been informed is tracking them GPS and that that information is being logged. They have the choice to leave the work phone at work at the end of the day. Or to turn it off. Or whatever.

I seriously doubt they care what you are doing after work hours (unless you are doing crazy illegal whatnots). For all you know, they could go through their logs and delete the hours you aren't at work.

No I do not have paranoia though they have no right to save this data and keep it especially after you leave the company. Plus they pretty much have the right to sell this info to anyone they want. It is the principle that if they are allowed to do this what is next?

sheep

If someone is that worried about it, they can get a contract drawn up to make the sale of that information illegal, and that the information gets burned once you leave the company.

..You do realize that most places aren't out to screw over their employees like that right? Well.. other than get the highest amount of work they can with the least amount of pay lol.

I don't think an employer would ever sign something like that? I am actually all for tracking you WHILE ON THE CLOCK. Saving the information off the clock is just wrong simple as that. (Don't any of you dare say I can leave the phone or truck at work because really, do you think ANYONE is going to do that besides someone like me?)

So did anyone see the South Park last night? They were making fun of this whole thing. They had a human centiPad that some users agreed to when updating their iTunes.
