On the bright side, I ordered my new cable/internet today, and they will be out to install it in the morning. Freaking awesome.

It's probably cause our eyes were moving faster than our brains could process the information. Mind you the average human brain can only process at 60 FPS while the eye can move much faster. If you read "move is" too fast, your brain will think that the i in is belongs to move. Thus creating "movie". Lot's of psychology involved in everyday life.
