Hands on Review of BF3 E3 demo

It takes 2 knife hits from the front to kill someone. Rejoice.

3:00 - How are they going to get 64 players on a cold war sized map?

13:20 - holding breath on snipers is confirmed (at least on pc)

15:00 - lots of recoil on snipers

17:00 - dogtags are only earned from knifing from behind!

17:50 - 2 hit kill melee from the front, swipe is faster, hit detection is good.

20:10 - Support gives out ammo and has LMG's (just confirming)

21:50 - have to be in prone to deploy Bipod

23:25 - sounds like kirby, haha

26:00 - Assault gives out health and defibs. uses assault rifles.

30:00 - Only get revive points for the first time you revive an individual.

32:50 - Disarming button is different from the picking up kit button.

33:55 - You can only arm Mcoms front the front

Operation Metro is not a 64 player map, they say in that video that it was 32. At least not the version in the demo. I've never played BF2, but I know maps have variations for different player counts so they'll do it in BF3 too.

That's not how PC servers work. Server owners set up the map rotation, so they get to decide what maps are played. Console players will probably get maps that are exclusively 24 players.

I bet all maps are going to be 24 players on console.

BF3 on the console is 32 players
However on the PC, it's 64 due to PCs being better in everyway.

Oh and the maps are going to be scaled down for Xbox 360 most likely so people aren't running further and cold war sized map for 32 is easy.

actually its only 24...

28:12 being supressed doesn't just blur/white out vision, it also screws up your aim.

I'm liking most of this, a lot actually. Knifing won't be super bullshit anymore, and dogtags actually have to be well-earned (for the most part, there's still luck/bullshit ready to happen in any game/time). The revive point system sounds VERY good, and the different arming button for M-COMs sounds even better.

Only thing I'm really worried about:

Suppression: I can picture it making the game more luck-based at times; if you and an enemy are suppressed, one of you may get a kill on the other more based on luck than skill.

the suppresion thing sounds good, but I am a little concerned with LMG spam since they also have ammo boxes.

yeahh.. just shooting in the general direction of the enemy will get you suppression points (and you have a 200 round clip with unlimited ammo)

could get frustrating.

From what I understand you only get the points if someone else kills an enemy while you have them suppressed.

Also, all weapons can suppress, it's just that the lmg will be able to keep up a steady stream of lead and doesn't have to worry about running out of ammo.

I also believe it takes 10-20 bullets to begin to "suppress" someone.

I can't provide a link or anything, but with the overload of BF3 info during E3, I'm almost positive I heard it somewhere. Take it as wild speculation, though.

I like that theyre trying to work in new game mechanics, but im just a little iffy about this one..

we'll just have to wait until the beta comes out.

I know, I'm trying to get a GOOD gaming laptop, because a new rig is just out of the picture by now.

If I get a good laptop and connect it to my HDTV, I'll be in heaven. But at least the SeCers that get it for Xbox will be plenty, so you guys won't be alone in your tiny maps with 24 players

By the way Symbolic, you could consider getting a rig and abuse Steam sales. In the long run, the rig will pay for itself with low priced games. You connect it to your TV and it's basically having a more flexible console, with better graphics and upgradeable parts. You can use anything you want from joystiqs to mouse and keyboard and game in your couch.

Haha yes this is true. At least I know I can fall back on the Sec for players. Im just really worried the console versions are gonna get reamed. I mean how the hell are the Jets gonna work on 24 player maps? Youll fly for 2 seconds and be out of bounds lol.

I'm not iffy. Even if it has some balance issues at launch, just imagine how awesome and tactical this can be. For the first time, yelling "I'M MOVING TO "X", COVER ME!" will actually mean something. I can't wait to see how this mechanic plays out.

Not only is it coming to 360, but it looks fucking fantastic! Hopefully the framerate holds up.

I think jets will be flying at about thrice the speed that attack choppers fly at right now (in real life its about 8 times).

DICE has said that theyre accommodating for console players. This is their flagship game, which they hope to take down the CoD franchise with. The only way to do that is by producing an awesome console experience, so im confident it will be just as awesome as the PC version.

These are good points. Have they commented on how they will handle map size? I haven't seen any info on this, and its my biggest concern.

At first I typed "the single most satisfying bullet...", but then realized that wasn't it.

My 3 most satisfying were hitting a steel target the size of a dinner plate at 200 yards using a 1911 .45 that only had a 3" barrel (Para Ordnance P10-45). I only hit it 3 times out of 10 rounds, but still... I was proud of myself.
