i've really enjoyed it so far.
it really makes survival a skill worth maxing, as food is not only more effective than stimpacks in HC, it also reduces your H2O and FOD meters. the higher your survival = the less food and drink you need to eat to stave off starvation/dehydration.
it also makes travelling merchants a lot more useful, as they stock food and drink. on core this is pretty useless but if you are close to death and need water of food they will literally save your life. it really makes you plan out what you carry in your inventory and how far you travel at a time (fast travel can kill you if the meters are too high).
plus, as stimpacks dont heal crippled limbs anymore you really have to look out for traps and enemies using explosives. doctors bags weigh 1lb each so again, you have to pack intelligently.
and the best thing i like about HC:
ammo WEIGHS a certain amount. if you want to have room for loot and food/drink you have to bring only the ammo you need. before HH (with the 75/100 lb limit) i had to spend a good 5 minutes making sure i had enough drink to last through the Zion trip, but also enough ammo to deal with enemies, while only carrying 100lbs or less. that meant only 100 MF cells and E Cells for my energy weapons and 10lbs of 5.56mm and 9mm for my rifle and pistol.
if you want to have good armour, powerful weapons and good loot you have to do a lot of consideration of builds and which weapons you use, in order to keep ammo weight down.
its such a good gameplay mechanic if you;re looking for the extra roleplaying elements.
