Forza 4

Honestly Im not sure what the point of using manual is besides style points. I feel like automatic does a better job at timing gear changes than I do.

If you're good at the timing then manual is better, but I really don't feel like bothering with it so I just use automatic unless it's a slow car or a drag race.

I can see how off the line would be faster, but whenever I spin out, getting back into the right gear is a pain

being able to select gears during spin out makes it easier to recover - pop it into 3rd and power out of the spin

the only was that using auto will benefit you is if TCS is on

by all means keep using auto if that's what you like and i'll get you of the line every time

I want smei-auto... the ability to switch between manual and automatic

but why? manual without clutch is basically semi-auto

honestly if you put in 20hrs with manual it will become second nature

it also makes it better for learning tracks... remember when we played the top gear track and i was calling out the gears for the corners?

over all it is more challenging but you will become a more aware driver

I don't know how you guys drive in third person...I drive way better in cockpit view. I "feel" the car more in first person. And yeah manila is right you really aught to give manual a go cause once you get used to it it's like second nature. Most of the time I don't even need to look at the tachometer to know when to shift...I can just tell by the sound of the engine.

But yeah I'm gonna sleep a bit but I'll be on tonight pretty much all night so I'll see you gents then.

Oh and I uploaded a bunch of LMP R1 cars to the club garage for your guys' driving pleasure. They aren't tuned or anything though.

I really think the next game I get will be Forza 4 so sometime this month I should have it hopefully XD

I was watching some vids and some say Forza 3 had better graphics but the cars look smoother in 4,tracks more real,and better lighting,and I thought Forza 3 looked great on my bros SDTV,so 4 should look real good on my HDTV

Hello again, I now have Forza 4 as well

Long story short, I got a Kinect for Christmas but it was faulty (there was a loose part inside it) so it was sent back to Amazon and I picked one up in store and got a better deal that included two games - one of which is Forza 4!

So far I've only had a sneak peek at the Kinect features in the game, as I've been a bit strapped for time, but I'll certainly be up for some racing in the near future. I am on UK time though, which can be a pain for schedules.....but, if nothing else, I can contribute to the car club and compete with rival times etc.

Also, I was checking what you guys were saying about manual vs. automatic gears, and just wondered what controllers you were using?

I like to use the MS wheel, and although it has paddle shifters, it's pretty much impossible to accurately hit the face buttons while turning the wheel. For that reason, I always bind the handbrake to one of the shifters and drive auto. I understand the advantages of manual gears (and I have tried it and enjoyed it with the wheel) but I find it more useful overall to have easy access to the handbrake.

Thoughts?

Hey whatever works for you man. I just use a regular controller and I know that personally I can't race any other way than manual in cockpit view.

yeah in 3rd person I'll always spin out because I don't notice my back end is slipping right away. And by the time I do realize it it's too late.

3rd person or 1st is personal preference but i'm sorry automatic is just not right

trust me on this... you will loose off the line and in corners if you run with automatic

yeah and I don't know how well drifting would work in automatic.

Absolutely no problem drifting.....

I guess it really comes down to the car more than the manual/automatic gear choice. I'd expect to lose in an identical car match-up auto vs manual, but otherwise it's not so clear cut.

Also, you get so much feedback from using the wheel - you get nothing back from the analogue sticks, and that alone makes a huge difference.

Yeah I've always wanted to try forza with a force feedback wheel...I bet it's really sweet.

I'd love to have a setup like this but it's really costly
