indeed. TB commented on it on Content Patch today.

im intrigued by the KBM-esque controller, having the control of a mouse on a controller would be crazy good. revolutionary to console FPS for certain.

Wow. That's pretty cool, but tbh I'm not really for it. I like Steam as is.

well to be fair, its not really aimed at PC users, they already have a PC and can just 'Big Picture' with a gamepad if they want to play on the couch Razz

Yea I dont think Ill buy it, but it will be interesting to see how they compete against Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo.

it's only a matter of time before they make consoles upgradable like pc's are. I wonder if that's the direction they will go with this.

that would be decent. might be harder on development though, Xbox games can be optimized so well (seriously, its impressive how much they have squeezed out of this generation) because of how limited the hardware variations are, if you add in more hardware variations its harder to optimize.

The whole point that console is optimized is that it is not upgradable. Take that away? Then there really is no point in developing for consoles as a first choice. Its going to be back to PC -> Console ports, like the OLD~~ days.

Also, I wonder what that guy on GFAQs (maybe somewhere else) will now say about the choice of mouse'esque controller, when he was arguing that console is better competitive machine because everyone is handicapped. LoL

how can anyone be handicapped relative to anyone else in terms of control if everyone is using the same control method?

i think its because on PC you can get a whole bunch of mice which can be very useful in games (programmable hotkeys on MMO mice, or DPI switches for FPS) and give the edge over a standard 2 button mouse. with controllers there is very little advantage without cheating (ie modded controllers).

Hmmm... Gabe Newell disgusts me, but this might interest me so long as it's more console than PC. If it required even a single fucking driver update though then I'd smash it apart and throw it out the window. And it better not have any damn mouse cursors on the goddam screen!

I thought this was funny though:
Personally, I'd love one, but I think the real lynchpin to its success will be its controller.

This is always the case for any system. Historically the quality of a systems controller always determines its success.

It better not look to fruity though.

And I suppose the n64 was a raging success because we all have three arms?

you only used two 90% of the time, but you would be ridiculous to believe that joke of a controller helped that console`s success

No, it's controller design was a big reason it was outsold by the Playstation by a huge margin.

And yet no one plays the PS1 any more. Instead, the n64 is still being played, and surprisingly still being programmed for.

360 updates don't qualify as this? How?

I think he specifically means the repeated, more frequent system updates that we have on PC. On xbox, it exists...but it's a lot less frequent.

.... driver updates are not frequent at all.

Edit: Not to mention they're completely optional, too.

Sony still sells tons of PSOne games on PSN. They're compatable with PS3, PSP and the Vita. That's besides the point though.

Nintendo got their ass kicked by Sony and a large part of that was the Sony controller was far superior.

The system with the percieved best controller wins.

Ante wrote:360 updates don't qualify as this? How?

Well, when the 360 needs the rare update it just does it and it is finished and working like a champ again within 10 minutes. No fuss, I don't have to mess with anything, worry about compatability or any other PCish problems. It was actually a driver issue that made me take my last gaming PC outside and shoot it to death in broad daylight.

The PS3 is much closer to a PC in that it needs stupid updates constantly, they take forever and sometimes they cause issues. It's part of the reason I think the PS3 is a giant piece of steaming poopies.

if PS4 gets party chat and has free online and fixes their long ass updates,I'll probably get it.Totally burned out on halo and that was one of the main reasons I had a 360.convincing some of my friends to get whatever console will be the ultimate deciding factor though

I update my drivers maybe once a month......

If thats to much work I dont know what to say....

It takes like 5 minutes and I have never once in my life had a driver compatibility issue.

It isn't just "updating the drivers", what I have a problem with is all the problems, incompatibilities and headaches that come along with PC gaming.

It just happened to be a driver issue that caused me to quit PC gaming.

After owning a PS3 they will have to improve it a metric shit ton to get me to buy a PS4. However if the Vita is any indication Sony has actually gotten worse at hardware and software design. We'll see.

Unless they really screw something up I'll get the next Xbox at launch though.

It will have to take something amazing for me to buy another console.

I just love the freedom gaming on PC gives me over consoles, and the extra juice is very nice, I wont lie.

I might jump back on the console bandwagon is they made them up-gradable.

I grew up playing consoles and PC, but as Ive gotten older consoles have fallen out of favor with me.

I actually enjoy the challenge of configuring some games, and tweaking game to fit your hardware. Thats fun to me. Being able to build my machine is also a huge perk to me.

Not to mention modding, and cheaper software prices.

I PERSONALLY find consoles to be limited, for those reasons. I enjoy all those perks, and really miss them.

The only thing I miss from consoles is playing the everybody from the SeC. Some of us get together on PC but its not the same as the BC2 heyday. Man those were fun times.

This was a long random post

If games were plug-n-play on PC like they are on console then I would have no problem coming back.

Speaking of which are these Lenovo yoga laptop/tablet Win 8 pc's powerful enough to game on? Or any of the other laptop/tablet hybrids running Win 8?

Probably not. You would have to show me a link to the product.

Tablets are good enough for Iphone style games, but you wont be able to play anything substantial on a tablet.

There are some laptops powerful enough for gaming, but they are very expensive.

Bummer. I was hoping since they run full windows 8 (not RT) there would be more oomph to them, enough to game on. Hopefully the Xbox Surface has some meat to it.
