Yeah I had the same mentality as Greg too but I knew the next gen of consoles wouldn't appeal to me so I made the jump.

Maybe we're just from another generation. Maybe we've finally gone past the age range of their ideal target demographic.

Everyone and their mother has a smartphone and I only got one just recently and I'd say I don't use it like most. I don't have tons of useless apps and games I just use mine primarily as a phone still.

but kids and teens are all about bells and whistles it seems. Everything is about social networking and inter-connectivity.

I think we're just getting old.

The thought had occurred to me many times. Still, I don't like the mentally of today that everything needs to be packed into one small package.

Im just saying this industry is not the same.

And to be labeled a complainer because I speak my mind on the issue is asinine.

M$ is so clearly pandering to the casuals, it amazes me that people on here dont see it.

Ah well Ive said my piece

Its up to those who support this shit to see it for themselves.

Seems those of us on here 25+ seem to be on the same boat

Again its a generational thing.

I think the younger guys just dont know any different. Which is rather sad as this industry used to be about the gamers.

I hear you.

But I can't say I blame MS for playing this kind of strategy, after all, they are first and foremost a business.

Still, I'll have nothing to do with it, personally.

I am curious to read Metal's thoughts on this. If anyone here understands what the gaming industry at least used to be, I'd bet it's him.

Just guessing, but Metal will probably like it.

MS still needs to unveil everything, but as it is, I'm not getting one. I'm pretty sure that it will sell very well though, unless they price it too high.

I would have liked the conference to be more about the games, like Sony's was, but as an entertainment 'hub' for the living room I do think this looks like an incredibly slick product.

And why shouldn't they target that? So long as the gaming side of things doesn't suffer, I don't mind. I could see a device like this getting used all the time at home. I'm 32, I remember how gaming and the industry 'used to be'.

As for that gaming side of things, there's a fair bit of bluster in here. Ultimately, we haven't seen any 'players perspective' gaming footage...so how can you say what it is or is not capable of?

Perhaps you're right and it's a piece of crap, but there's still a lot of speculation here. I'll wait a few more weeks for E3 and the games to show before I write this off or decide if it is worth my time.

Exactly.

Maybe you're right and it's not a good sign, but I don't see the point in getting flustered about it now when we'll know for sure in just a couple of weeks.

Processor and graphics: as rumored, a heavily customized AMD chip that combines an eight-core CPU, a GPU tailored for DirectX 11.1 graphics and 32MB of high bandwidth embedded ESRAM memory. The 28nm chip will consume around 100 watts, which is slightly higher than current Xbox Slim and PS3, but Microsoft promises noise from the cooling fans will be "four times quieter."

System memory: a Sony-rivaling 8GB of RAM, although it'll be DDR3 instead of the PlayStation 4's GDDR5.

Audio and video: 1080p and 4K both supported; 7.1 surround sound.

Kinect: This will be bundled with the console and contain 250,000-pixel infrared depth sensor as well as a regular 720p web cam.

Storage and media: a 500GB hard drive of unknown speed plus a Blu-ray / DVD combo drive that will be used as little as possible. We're told disc-based games will be ripped to the HDD automatically.

Connectivity: HDMI 1.4 output and passthrough; a "few" USB 3.0 ports; gigabit Ethernet; plus, three separate 802.11n radios to allow the console to communicate with its controller (over a form of WiFi Direct) as well as other devices (such as perhaps other Windows-based phones and tablets) without losing its connection to the internet. At other times, two radios could be used to maintain a stronger WiFi signal.

Whats the positives?

Its not speculation when just about everything we were worried about has been confirmed.

I mean a fee to play a friends game? You have gotta be fucking kidding me...

Yeah I imagine there's going to be alot of backlash about that one if it turns out to be true...there seems to be conflicting reports about that one though.

Yeah I will agree most everything I've heard sounds negative. As previously stated I plan to go with a PS4 since it seems to be the more gamer friendly set up. But I have a hard time believing every bit of negative hype less than 24 hours after a console is announced.

In honesty, I don't really care for the specs on paper (even when they are finally confirmed) - I want to see the thing in action, see what it can do rather than try to second guess from a list of parts.

This is entirely Microsoft's fault for not focusing enough on games and for not giving full disclosure about the always on/used games issues - there are already conflicting reports popping up about both of those. MS really needs to step up and officially outline these policies so everyone knows exactly what's going on.

As a gamer, I thought the reveal was terrible, but I think it's an interesting device with a decent amount of potential. We'll see.

As a slight aside, I know there are haters here but I think the new Kinect footage actually looks really impressive. Remains to be seen if that will translate into any interesting games, but it's cool tech.

Yeah and people never overreact to numbers on paper >_>

All I''m saying is I get where your coming from, but just because we both think it looks bad doesn't mean that it will fail.

For the people concerned about games and saying Microsoft is not focused on gamers like Sony, this reveal was about the hardware and features.Their calling E3 part two, thats where the games will be anounced.Today they said they are bringing 15 exclusives to the new Xbox in its first year and eight of them are new games.Sounds like theyre focused on gamers(and everyone else) to me.
Its only a couple weeks to E3.

I cant possibly go through all the post so far to get up to speed, so plz correct me if I had mused something.

I dont see any concrete hardware information except for in the general sense of "oh, we are going to have good ram, good cpu, and 5 billion transistor".

Just for reference, GTX Titan should have 7.1 billion, 680 has 3,540 mllion transistors, and i7 3770k has around 1.4 billion. So is MS claiming that this new console will have capability of high-end PC? I highly doubt this is possible, unless the console is going to cost as much as high end PC, or MS taking MASSIVE loss (and beyond anything I have seen so far in console history). I just think its not possible, and that transistor count thing is just marketing filler, that is there to WOOOOO the ignorant.
